The Chaos Vortex (混沌の狭間 Konton no Hazama, "Chaos Rift") is a location in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Physical Appearance[]
A realm that ignores the laws of physics,[1] the Chaos Vortex is mostly comprised of rock, distorted structures resembling buildings, and whirling orange masses. This area possesses a variety of disembodied eyeballs, massive hand silhouettes, a long and narrow cave, and a hot spring in the form of a waterfall.
However, most of the disembodied eyeballs are actually eye-shaped portals that lead elsewhere, which are visible through the sclera of each eyeball. Some of the locations shown appear to be areas Pit has traversed through during previous Air Battles, such as Chapter 2's stormy skies, Skyworld's golden clouds during Chapter 3, and Chapter 7's vast desert.

Chapter 21: The Chaos Vortex[]
When the Chaos Kin steals Palutena's soul from her body and flees to its home realm, Pit is forced to pursue it into the Chaos Vortex. Here, he must traverse through the disorienting terrain and bizarre obstacles until he finally damages the Chaos Kin enough to send it spiraling down to a strip of land.
Pit lands nearby, though the creature goes into hiding and deploys replicas of enemies from various factions in an effort to shake him off. Dark Pit soon joins the fray to help his lookalike, and the two fight off the waves of enemies together until the Chaos Kin appears. Engaging it in battle, they defeat the Chaos Kin, leaving behind its ash-like remains and returning Palutena's soul to her body—however, the Chaos Kin's ashes begin to move, promptly rushing over to Dark Pit to wrap itself around him and send him flying off the edge. Pit is quick to jump off after him, demanding that Viridi grant him the Power of Flight despite having used it not long before. She reluctantly obliges, and Pit rescues Dark Pit, pulling him back up to safety. However, the overuse of the Power of Flight causes Pit's wings to burn to a crisp, which leaves the angel in critical condition.

The Chaos Vortex is the home of the vicious Chaos Kin. A bizarre dimension not governed by the physical laws of our world, one inch here is somehow a mile there. This mysterious tear in space is truly a glimpse into another world.
